new orleans has been known for its "skin"-tillating shows since the early 1900s. the age of burlesque on bourbon street was cut short in the 1960s, when the new orleans d.a. "cleaned up" the quarter, now inhabited by many a strip club boasting more flesh than flash. rick delaup, founder of bustout burlesque, has been the leading force behind bringing burlesque back to its former glory.
with this in mind, delaup is throwing the first annual new orleans burlesque fest, a three-night celebration of world-class burlesque entertainment at harrah's, sept. 11-13. old new orleans rum is rolling out the red carpet for the burlesque elites from all over the country with a fishnet-working social hour in the green bar at the westin, sept. 11, friday from 5:30 to 8:00 pm to kick off the weekend of festivities.
kitty west aka evangeline the oyster girl, a legend in the burlesque world, will be the honorary host and will toast the event! guests of the fest, burlesque enthusiasts, and the burlesque-curious are all invited to join us at the fishnet-working social hour to drink to the new age of burlesque!
