more tip jar ...

what can you do with an empty full-sized altoids tin? plenty!

  • first aid kit - slip in some individual packets or a tiny tube of antibacterial ointment, a few adhesive bandages, some individually wrapped alcohol swabs, a few Q-tips, a small book of matches, a needle or safety pin, and a styptic pencil (it will all fit) and you have an instant tiny first aid kit to carry with you just about anywhere. keep it closed with a strong hair elastic.

  • clothing repair kit - wrap several yards each of black, white, grey, beige and red thread around a small flat piece of cardboard. tuck a couple of sewing needles behind the thread. add a tiny pair of folding scissors, a few buttons, a few small safety pins, and a few straight pins and you have a great basic sewing kit for your carry on. if you usually travel with the same clothes all the time, find those little repair baggies that come with most good clothing (the ones that have an extra button, samples of the thread used, extra beading, etc.) and tuck those in your sewing kit too. keep it closed with strong hair elastic.

  • bad hair day kit - tuck any tiny hair product samples in here. add some clear hair elastics, a few thicker coated ones in brown or black, some bobby pins or other favorite hair pins, a few simple barrettes, tiny clippies, small combs, etc. and you have an emergency bad hair day kit always ready at your fingertips. keep it closed with one of the hair elastics.

  • ipod shuffle camoflage - an altoids case is the perfect size to hide your ipod shuffle and earbuds from potential thieves.

happy travels!
