tricky little monkey ...

diva cell phone travel tricks:

* program your airline's phone number plus two or three other airlines' you trust into your cell phone before you leave for the airport. if you want to upgrade, or if you get to the airport early and discover there's an earlier flight you'd like to catch, call the airline from your phone and make your request via the phone attendants, who can key in your request in seconds (and possibly waive the reservation change fees - never hurts to ask!) and don't have 15 angry people in front of them waiting to "chat." otherwise, you might get stuck in line waiting to ask frazzled and overworked airport desk workers for something they've just given away to the guy in line right before you.

* this same tactic also works well when your flight has been cancelled and you absolutely HAVE to get somewhere - instead of following the crowd and pushing your way to another airline's desk, call them instead.

* key in a few numbers for major hotel chains as well so you're not left scrambling should bad weather delay your flight overnight in a strange city.

* program the alarm feature to alert you one hour before your flight is scheduled to leave the tarmac, then call the airline to see if you can upgrade to business class for a discounted fee.

* don't carry an alarm clock with you. use the above-mentioned alarm feature instead (oh...and never count on wake up calls from the front desk).

* if you find yourself having to stay a few days in a sketchy hotel, but you have to leave some of your valuables in the room, use your phone's camera to take photos of your valuables near some of the recognizable features of the room (a desk that has some of the hotel's letterhead on it, or on the bed, in the bathroom near some of the hotel's signature soaps, etc). if you find anything is missing, you have visual proof that your things were there at one point via the time/date stamping.

happy travels!
